Starboard Group Receives National Recognition for 2012 Campaign Work
Campaign & Elections Magazine Names the Firm a Reed Award Finalist
LITTLETON, CO – Campaign & Elections magazine, the nation’s leading trade journal for political
consultants, recognized the Starboard Group this week for producing one of the top four fundraising plans
in the country. On Tuesday, the publication announced the finalists for its fifth annual Reed Awards and
Colorado-based Starboard Group was selected in the Best Fundraising Program category. The nomination
was in recognition of the finance plan it put in place for Mike Coffman for Congress.
“It is an honor and delight to receive this recognition from our peers,” said Kristin Strohm, a managing
partner of the firm. “It is so rewarding to receive this acknowledgment from such a prestigious national
organization since our whole team worked tirelessly not only for Congressman Coffman, but also for a
slew of other great candidates. I can’t think of better way to start the year.”
Strohm and her business partner Katie Behnke led the Starboard Group to raise over $1.9 million for
incumbent Congressman Mike Coffman, R-CO. Coffman faced a tough race against Democratic State
Rep. Joe Miklosi after redistricting made Colorado’s Sixth Congressional District much less favorable to
the Republican lawmaker.
“Fundraising was a key component to my campaign’s success and the Starboard Group has been an
excellent partner in executing a fully-funded campaign,” Coffman said. “I look forward to continue
working with them in the future.”
The firm raised over $15 million for its political clients in the 2012 election cycle.
The awards, named after Campaigns & Elections’ founder Stanley Foster Reed, will be presented at a
dinner in Washington, D.C. on Friday, February 1. The winners will be selected by a board of over 20
judges, all experts in political campaigning.
Starboard was nominated for best fundraising plan alongside Trilogy Interactive for Elizabeth Warren for
U.S. Senate, Campaign Solutions/Connell Donatelli for Michele Bachmann Online Fundraising, and
BuzzMaker for Alan Grayson Comes Back.
Founded by Behnke and Strohm in 2008, the Starboard Group quickly gained prominence as the only
one-stop shop for Republican candidates in Colorado seeking development and management consulting.
In addition to serving Congressional candidates Coffman, Cory Gardner, and Joe Coors in the 2012
election cycle, Starboard also led fundraising efforts in Colorado for GOP presidential nominee Mitt
Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan. In addition Starboard has a successful track record in
developing and managing campaigns for non-profit and corporate clients. For more information on the
